Wireless emergency alerts sent to your cell phone | Watch Your ...

CTIA-The Wireless Association and the wireless industry have joined the Federal Communications Commission and Federal Emergency Management Agency to create a wireless emergency alert system.

So far, the carriers set to participate include AT&T, Cellcom, Cricket, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless. Each carrier will automatically enroll subscribers once the alerts start.

These alerts will be sent to your phone whether you want to receive them or not. The only alerts consumers can opt out of are the AMBER alerts and weather alerts. Receiving the Presidential Alerts is not an option.

According to CTIA ? The Wireless Association, wireless users will not be charged for these alerts.
