Overcrowding at Charleston Animal Society | WCBD-TV 2

The Charleston Animal Society is running out of time and room.

The Charleston Animal Society is running out of time and room, as kittens are being stacked in the halls of the shelter.

Kay Hyman, The shelter?s spokeswoman, said that they usually see an influx of animals every spring and summer, but this year seems to be unlike the others.

?In my 20 years of working in this system, I think I?ve never seen it this crowded with animals,? Hyman said.

The shelter adopted out 134 animals in the last six days, but in that same time frame 150 more animals came through their doors.

About 40 percent of the animals that come through the doors of the Charleston Animal Society are put to sleep because there is not enough room, and not enough families that are willing to give the animals a home.

??To me, no friendly, healthy, loving animal should have to be put to sleep just because we as a society have not made arrangements for them. This is our problem and we need to do something about it,? Hyman said.

She believes that you can help solve this problem by doing three simple things:
??????????????? 1. Fostering (temporarily taking an animal home with you)
??????????????? 2. Adopting
??????????????? 3. Spaying and neutering your animals
